Each dataset made available through LANDARNA is identified within the application, together with its source, licence type and applicable attribution or usage information.

Information held about each dataset

LANDARNA maintains information about the provenance, licensing and dates associated with each dataset. Depending on the information available from the provider, this includes:

These dates describe LANDARNA's record of the dataset. They do not necessarily indicate that the provider has published all recent changes or that the dataset represents current real-world conditions.

Principal specifically licensed datasets

UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology

LANDARNA can provide access to UKCEH Land Cover Map land parcel data under 3ADAPT's licensing arrangement with UKCEH.

Alternative arrangements may apply where an organisation already holds an appropriate UKCEH licence covering the required data and geographic extent. In these circumstances, it may be possible for the organisation to make the data available to 3ADAPT under a contractor licence for use in delivering LANDARNA or associated services to that organisation.

UKCEH provides different licensing routes for commercial, public-sector, charitable, academic and other non-commercial uses. Eligibility and applicable conditions depend on the organisation's circumstances, existing permissions and intended use of the data.

Public-sector, charitable and other non-commercial organisations may be eligible for non-commercial access arrangements. However, organisation type does not by itself determine whether a use is commercial or non-commercial. An activity involving financial gain or another commercial purpose may be treated as commercial even where it is undertaken by a charitable or public-sector organisation.

HM Land Registry 

HM Land Registry information, including registered title polygons and associated information, is incorporated into LANDARNA under a specific paid licence held by 3ADAPT. 

The following attribution applies:

 Where polygons, associated geometry or UPRNs are used, the following additional attribution applies: 

The polygons (including the associated geometry, namely x, y co-ordinates) and UPRNs are subject to Crown and GeoPlace LLP copyright and database rights [APPLICABLE YEAR] Ordnance Survey 100026316. 

 The applicable year is the year of supply or publication of the HM Land Registry information being used.

Ordnance Survey 

LANDARNA uses Ordnance Survey information under different licensing arrangements. 

• Some Ordnance Survey datasets are available under open-data terms, including the Open Government Licence. 

• Other OS information may be incorporated through another licensed dataset, including UKCEH or HM Land Registry information. 

• Other OS information may be supplied by a customer organisation under its own Ordnance Survey licence. 

• Other OS information may be made available to 3ADAPT through a Public Sector Geospatial Agreement or other contractor licence. 

• Other OS information may be used under a separate commercial arrangement where applicable. 

Data supplied under a customer’s contractor licence may only be used to provide the agreed services to that organisation. It cannot be used generally for other LANDARNA customers or for unrelated purposes. 

The applicable Ordnance Survey acknowledgement is displayed for the relevant dataset and licensing arrangement.

Mapbox and OpenStreetMap 

LANDARNA uses Mapbox to provide base mapping, map rendering and related mapping services within the application. Mapbox base map styles incorporate data derived from OpenStreetMap, together with other data sources identified by Mapbox. 

OpenStreetMap data is © OpenStreetMap contributors and is made available under the Open Database Licence (ODbL) v1.0. Mapbox services, software and map styles are used under 3ADAPT's agreement with Mapbox and are subject to Mapbox's terms of service. 

Where a Mapbox base map is displayed within LANDARNA, the following attribution applies and is shown on the map:

Base mapping is provided for context and display purposes. It is separate from the analytical datasets identified within the application, which are governed by their own source, licence and attribution information. Users should not extract, redistribute or reuse Mapbox map tiles, styles or underlying data outside LANDARNA except as permitted by the Mapbox terms of service and, in respect of OpenStreetMap data, the ODbL.

Organisation-provided data 

LANDARNA can incorporate data supplied directly by customer organisations, including information about landholdings, assets, infrastructure, projects, opportunities and other internal datasets. 

Within the customer-facing LANDARNA service, organisation-provided data: 

• is not made available to users from other customer organisations; 

• is only visible to authorised users from the organisation that supplied it; 

• is managed in accordance with the permissions configured for that organisation; and 

• is used to provide LANDARNA and associated agreed services, rather than for unrelated purposes. 

Access may also be provided to authorised 3ADAPT personnel or approved service providers where necessary to operate, maintain, secure or support the service, subject to the applicable contractual, confidentiality and data protection requirements. 

The organisation supplying data is responsible for ensuring that it has the necessary rights, permissions and lawful basis to provide and use that information through LANDARNA.

Dataset dates and updates 

Third-party datasets are produced and maintained by their respective providers. They may contain limitations, omissions or inaccuracies and may be updated at different frequencies. 

LANDARNA periodically reviews the datasets available through the platform. However, because source datasets are published and updated on different schedules, LANDARNA does not apply or guarantee a standard update interval across all datasets unless a particular arrangement is expressly stated. 

Current update arrangements for principal datasets include: 

• HM Land Registry data is updated automatically within LANDARNA on a monthly basis. HM Land Registry information can nevertheless lag significantly behind property transactions, registrations and other real-world changes. 

• UKCEH data is reviewed annually and updated where an appropriate new release is available and suitable for incorporation into LANDARNA. 

• Mapbox base mapping is maintained and updated by Mapbox on its own schedule and is not subject to LANDARNA's dataset review cycle. 

• Other datasets are reviewed and updated periodically, taking account of provider publication schedules, dataset relevance, technical compatibility and licensing arrangements. 

Users should consider how current a dataset is by reviewing its source publication date, when it was incorporated into LANDARNA and when it was last updated within LANDARNA.

Reindexing sites and analysis 

When an underlying dataset is updated within LANDARNA, existing site-based analysis, indexed results and workflows may not be recalculated automatically. 

Users are responsible for reindexing affected sites and data and, where appropriate, rerunning relevant analysis or workflows. This helps ensure that site-based results use the most recent version of the relevant datasets available within LANDARNA. 

Reindexing uses the latest dataset available within LANDARNA. It does not guarantee that the originating provider’s information is complete, current or free from error.

User responsibilities 

Users are responsible for using data accessed through LANDARNA in accordance with: 

• the applicable LANDARNA agreement and terms of use; 

• the licence, attribution and usage information identified for the relevant dataset; 

• the terms of any licence held by their organisation; and 

• any restrictions imposed by the relevant data owner or licensor. 

Some licences may restrict extraction, redistribution, sublicensing, onward publication or independent reuse. The availability of information through LANDARNA should not be interpreted as granting an unrestricted right to extract or reuse the underlying source data outside the platform. 

The inclusion of third-party data does not imply that the relevant provider endorses LANDARNA, 3ADAPT, its users or any analysis or conclusions produced using the platform.

Reporting outdated or missing data 

We encourage users to contact the LANDARNA team if they identify: 

• a dataset that appears to be out of date; 

• a newer version that has not yet been incorporated; 

• incorrect source, licence or attribution information; or 

• a relevant dataset that could usefully be considered for inclusion.
